Enjoy a leisurely 1-hour drive through the beautiful Cape Winelands and over spectacular mountain passes to the charming Gourmet Capital of South Africa - Franschhoek. Nestled in the magnificent Franschhoek Valley, this is one of South Africa’s oldest towns whose name translates to “French Corner”, a reminder of its origins when the French Huguenots settled here in the late 1600s. Most of the world renowned wine estates here still hold their original French names.
The rest of the afternoon and evening is free to explore the town at leisure. The town’s main street is a treasure trove of fascinating little shops offering antiques, collectable books, jewellery, designer clothing, artworks and chocolate. Franschhoek is also home to several of the country’s top restaurants and award winning chefs, so you will be spoilt for choice when it comes to deciding on your dinner venue.

After a hearty breakfast get ready to explore the Winelands, we suggest you select 3 or 4 estates to taste some of South Africa’s finest wines and perhaps experience a cellar tour to learn how they are made.
Several of the estates offer wine pairings and our favorite recommendations would be:
Waterford Wine Estate in Stellenbosch for a wine and chocolate pairing
JC Le Roux in Stellenbosch for a sparkling wine and nougat, turkish delight, meringue and marshmallow pairing (also offer alcohol free bubbly for kids!) or
Fairview Estate in Paarl for a cheese and wine tasting.
The towns of Stellenbosch and Paarl also have a wealth of historical places of interest for visitors to explore, with plenty of options to also keep children entertained.

This is a malaria-free Big Five reserve, particularly noted for its population of wild dog, and is home to approximately 66 large mammal species and roughly 300 bird species. The area is comprised of vast open grassland plains, woodlands, rocky outcrops and single mountains.

A day in the bush is not complete without an in-room massage treatment out on your private deck by one of the lodge’s experienced massage therapists.
In the afternoon, when the heat of the African sun has diminished and the shadows are longer, head out on a sundowner safari to watch the sun set on this bushveld paradise and go in search of the more nocturnal creatures that now rule the bush.
